New batch of PCBs. A couple updates and a couple new things. Here’s this list:
- Frantone Peach Fuzz clone
- Peach Pit my version of the Peach fuzz with mods
- John Hollis Frobnicator
- Ace Tone Fuzz Master
- Deformis my version Tim Escobedo’s Ugly Face
- Retro Channel The Fuzz
- Dead Astronaut Trem Shifter
I designed the boards in Eagle PCB (I swear I will learn KiCad one day!) and had them manufactured at PCBWay.com. I love this service, they always do great work and their web site is very easy to use! They also gang shipping which is why I order 7 boards at once, instead of placing seven separate orders!
What was in this batch?
There were a couple fixes, and improvements on old boards and some new boards that I had worked on for a while and finally got around to finishing up.
Deformis
This is a version of Tim Escobedo’s Ugly Face with some of my own mods. I started with the Ugly Face and swapped the LM386 for a dual op-amp. I used one op-amp to replace the 386 and the other to add a mix control. You can read more about Deformis here. This version fixes an error in the original PCB.
Frantone – Peach Fuzz
Peach Fuzz is a fuzz pedal by one of the old school boutique pedal makers Frantone. I had always wanted to clone this. It’s based on the LM386 which is fun chip that sees a lot of use in DIY projects. Expect a post about this and Frantone in the future! Frantone
Peach Pit
The Peach Fuzz uses only one side of a dual op-amp as an input buffer for two LM386. While I was making the schematic for the Peach Fuzz I wondered what I could do with the unused op-amp. The Peach Pit swaps the original tone circuit for a two band bass and treble tone circuit and uses the extra op-amp as an output buffer.
Ace Tone – Fuzz Master
Ace Tone was a Japanese company, the Fuzz Master is a Big Muff with a boost channel.
Retro Channel – The Fuzz
Retro Channel was a company that made boutique amps. They also made a fuzz pedal. The Fuzz is a Fuzz Face/Tone Bender type pedal built around the CA3046/CA3086 transistor array. I’m a big fan of this chip, so I had to clone this pedal!
John Hollis – Frobnicator
Frobnicator is a tremolo by John Hollis. Built around the LM3080 it has a high frequency switch that gives it some ring modulator sounds. My first PCB had too many errors, hopefully this version will resolve them!
Dead Astronaut – Trem Shifter
DeadAstronautFX makes some really great PCBs. They have lot of good ideas. The Trem Shifter is a tremolo and filter combined. I built a couple of the original PCBs but wanted a different layout so decided to make my own PCB.
Stay tuned, I’m soldering these up and will post some build reports soon!
